Captains Corner

Members of CURUFC and blues supporters,

It is with great pleasure I am afforded the opportunity to express myself on the CURUFC website under the 'Captains corner' page. I am hugely honoured to be in the position to lead the blues side this year and am looking forward to what has the great possibility of being a very successful and enjoyable season, culminating in a victory at Twickenham come the 9th of December.

The season has already started with pre season conditioning programs and fitness regimes underway. Players are finding themselves in the gyms and out on the pitches putting on the necessary muscle and strength that is needed, as the build up to the varsity match is short and preparation is key. The first meeting with the squad will be on the 1st of September followed by a tour to the USA which is an unbelievable achievement, so crucial to the spirit of Cambridge rugby.

There is a good mixture of both young and old, hard earned experience and youthful exuberance that should blend together to create the type of rugby we can be proud of. There is some excellent talent, joining us from the u21 side, who will be pushing hard for a place in the 22 man squad and this, coupled with the steady handed and calm headedness of experienced campaigners should produce the necessary balance that is so important in a team.

To past blues and supporters of the club I would like to thank you for all your support you have given to the club and look forward to your continuing involvement. Whether it is a handshake of good luck or shouting in the stands during games it is much appreciated by all the players and staff at CURUFC and I look forward to welcoming you back to Grange road. I look forward to the season and seeing all of you there.
