Casablanca 7s - Light Blues Runners Up to SA Students

Posted on: 7 Apr 2010

The Cambridge University 7s team were runners up at the Casablanca 7s tournament winning all their matches in pool play, semi final before losing the grand final to a very strong SA Students side. This competitive tournament, an initiative from the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR), was endorsed and supported by the International Rugby Board (IRB) to develop the game in the rest of Africa. Team manager Ian Minto said " the boys really applied themselves well and did not give up especially after 3 early errors were converted into quick tries by a clinical SA side. The boys bounced back and the second half was much more competitive scoring a try a piece." With such a competitive tournament under their belts the Light Blues move confidently to the home of 7s rugby, Melrose this weekend. It is the 50th anniversary since Cambridge University won the tournament and it is hoped the light blues can take inspiration from this past success to give another good account of themselves. Results: French Universities 42-7 Rabat (Morroco) 27-12 Semi Final - Brescia (Italy) 35-12 Grand Final - SA Students 5-31
