Charlie Watson and Laura Bleehen will captain CURUFC for the 2021/22 season
CURUFC is delighted to announce that Laura Bleehen (Girton, Medicine) and Charlie Watson (Selwyn, Natural Sciences) have been announced as captains for the 2021/22 season.
Laura won three football blues before making the switch to rugby in her fourth year. In just her 10th ever game of rugby she started as loose head prop in the 2019 Varsity Match and came back from injury to give an impressive second half off the bench in last seasons delayed match. Laura was also part of the Wales women’s training squad for the 2020 Six Nations.
Aged 18, Charlie’s first action at Grange Road was scoring against CURUFC as part of the 2018 Steele-Bodger XV. A year later, in his first year at Cambridge, he won his first Blue starting at inside centre as part of the 2019 Varsity Match winning side. During his time at Cambridge, Charlie has represented both England U20s and Saracens, most recently featuring against Ulster at the HAC as part of Saracens’ 2021 pre-season.
Everyone at CURUFC looks forward to supporting Charlie and Laura throughout the coming year. Charlie will be ably supported by recently appointed Secretaries and Treasurer, George Cook (Robinson, MML), Iham Kasem (Emmanuel, Medicine) and Ben Jackson (Sidney Sussex, Medicine).
Laura will be supported in her new role by Vice Captain Collette Russell (Fitzwilliam, Medicine) and Secretary Emily Bell (Fitzwilliam, MML French & Spanish) who both won their first Blues at Leicester in July.
