In a game that was most definitely for the purists, the CURUFC Men emerged 17-14 winners against the Crawshays Welsh XV. Despite disruption from a number of injuries, this was a considerably improved performance on the previous fixture against the Army. The Light Blues were able to offer a solid platform up front and the number of handling errors was significantly reduced, despite the conditions being far from ideal.
Up front, Laurence Marwood (St Edmund's) and Ben Jackson (Sidney Sussex) both played well at tighthead and loosehead respectively, while Dan Montesino Jones (St John's) carried well in the backrow. Alex King (St Catharine's) had his first start at flyhalf and controlled the territory well, while the back three offered constant threat in attack.
Overall, the CURUFC men will be pleased with the performance and now look to build as they head towards next week's fixture against Trinity College Dublin. This match is on Thursday night, 7.30pm KO).
